Convert Fahrenheit to Celsius
Unit definitions
Fahrenheit
Fahrenheit is a scale commonly used in the United States. Temperature in $^{\circ}\text{F}$ is equal to $\text{K} \times \frac{9}{5} - 459.67$.
Celsius
Celsius is defined by the temperatures at which water freezes ($0 \ \text{°C}$) and boils ($100 \ \text{°C}$) at standard atmospheric pressure. Temperature in Celsius is equal to $\text{K} - 273.15$.
How to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = \left( - 32 + \text{Temperature}_{\text{°F}}\right) \cdot \frac{5}{9}$$
Examples
Example 1
Convert $25.0\ \text{°F}$ to $\text{°C}$.
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = \left( - 32 + 25.0\right) \cdot \frac{5}{9}$$
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = -3.888889$$
$$\therefore \ 25.0\ \text{°F} = -3.888889 \ \text{°C}$$
Example 2
Convert $60.0\ \text{°F}$ to $\text{°C}$.
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = \left( - 32 + 60.0\right) \cdot \frac{5}{9}$$
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = 15.555556$$
$$\therefore \ 60.0\ \text{°F} = 15.555556 \ \text{°C}$$
Example 3
Convert $120.0\ \text{°F}$ to $\text{°C}$.
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = \left( - 32 + 120.0\right) \cdot \frac{5}{9}$$
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = 48.888889$$
$$\therefore \ 120.0\ \text{°F} = 48.888889 \ \text{°C}$$
Example 4
Convert $140.0\ \text{°F}$ to $\text{°C}$.
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = \left( - 32 + 140.0\right) \cdot \frac{5}{9}$$
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = 60$$
$$\therefore \ 140.0\ \text{°F} = 60 \ \text{°C}$$
Example 5
Convert $190.0\ \text{°F}$ to $\text{°C}$.
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = \left( - 32 + 190.0\right) \cdot \frac{5}{9}$$
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = 87.777778$$
$$\therefore \ 190.0\ \text{°F} = 87.777778 \ \text{°C}$$
