Convert Joule to Kilojoule

Unit definitions

Joule

The joule is the SI unit of energy. It is defined as the work done when a force of one newton is applied over a distance of one meter.

Kilojoule

$10^{3} \ \text{J}$ is a kilojoule.

How to convert Joule to Kilojoule

$$\text{Energy}_{\text{kJ}} = \frac{\text{Energy}_{\text{J}}}{{10}^{3}}$$

Examples

Example 1

Convert $35.0\ \text{J}$ to $\text{kJ}$.

$$\text{Energy}_{\text{kJ}} = \frac{35.0}{{10}^{3}}$$

$$\text{Energy}_{\text{kJ}} = 0.035$$

$$\therefore \ 35.0\ \text{J} = 0.035 \ \text{kJ}$$

Example 2

Convert $70.0\ \text{J}$ to $\text{kJ}$.

$$\text{Energy}_{\text{kJ}} = \frac{70.0}{{10}^{3}}$$

$$\text{Energy}_{\text{kJ}} = 0.07$$

$$\therefore \ 70.0\ \text{J} = 0.07 \ \text{kJ}$$

Example 3

Convert $115.0\ \text{J}$ to $\text{kJ}$.

$$\text{Energy}_{\text{kJ}} = \frac{115.0}{{10}^{3}}$$

$$\text{Energy}_{\text{kJ}} = 0.115$$

$$\therefore \ 115.0\ \text{J} = 0.115 \ \text{kJ}$$

Example 4

Convert $135.0\ \text{J}$ to $\text{kJ}$.

$$\text{Energy}_{\text{kJ}} = \frac{135.0}{{10}^{3}}$$

$$\text{Energy}_{\text{kJ}} = 0.135$$

$$\therefore \ 135.0\ \text{J} = 0.135 \ \text{kJ}$$

Example 5

Convert $175.0\ \text{J}$ to $\text{kJ}$.

$$\text{Energy}_{\text{kJ}} = \frac{175.0}{{10}^{3}}$$

$$\text{Energy}_{\text{kJ}} = 0.175$$

$$\therefore \ 175.0\ \text{J} = 0.175 \ \text{kJ}$$
