Convert Kilogram to Metric ton

Unit definitions

Kilogram

The kilogram is the SI base unit of mass. Since the 2019 redefinition of the SI base units, it is defined by using the fixed numerical value of the Planck's constant ($h$) to be $6.626\,070\,15 \times 10^{-34} \ \text{J}\text{s}$. $$h = 6.626\,070\,15 \times 10^{-34} \ \text{J}\text{s}$$ $$h = 6.626\,070\,15 \times 10^{-34} \ \text{kg}\text{m}^2\text{s}^{-2}\cdot\text{s}$$ $$h = 6.626\,070\,15 \times 10^{-34} \ \text{kg}\text{m}^2\text{s}^{-1}$$ Therefore, $$1 \ \text{kg} = \frac{h}{6.626\,070\,15 \times 10^{-34} \ \text{m}^2\text{s}^{-1}}$$ $$1 \ \text{kg} = \frac{h}{6.626\,070\,15 \times 10^{-34}} \ \text{m}^{-2} \text{s}$$

Metric ton

$1\,000$ kilograms is a metric ton.

How to convert Kilogram to Metric ton

$$\text{Mass}_{\text{t}} = \frac{\text{Mass}_{\text{kg}}}{1000}$$

Examples

Example 1

Convert $50.0\ \text{kg}$ to $\text{t}$.

$$\text{Mass}_{\text{t}} = \frac{50.0}{1000}$$

$$\text{Mass}_{\text{t}} = 0.05$$

$$\therefore \ 50.0\ \text{kg} = 0.05 \ \text{t}$$

Example 2

Convert $65.0\ \text{kg}$ to $\text{t}$.

$$\text{Mass}_{\text{t}} = \frac{65.0}{1000}$$

$$\text{Mass}_{\text{t}} = 0.065$$

$$\therefore \ 65.0\ \text{kg} = 0.065 \ \text{t}$$

Example 3

Convert $120.0\ \text{kg}$ to $\text{t}$.

$$\text{Mass}_{\text{t}} = \frac{120.0}{1000}$$

$$\text{Mass}_{\text{t}} = 0.12$$

$$\therefore \ 120.0\ \text{kg} = 0.12 \ \text{t}$$

Example 4

Convert $135.0\ \text{kg}$ to $\text{t}$.

$$\text{Mass}_{\text{t}} = \frac{135.0}{1000}$$

$$\text{Mass}_{\text{t}} = 0.135$$

$$\therefore \ 135.0\ \text{kg} = 0.135 \ \text{t}$$

Example 5

Convert $180.0\ \text{kg}$ to $\text{t}$.

$$\text{Mass}_{\text{t}} = \frac{180.0}{1000}$$

$$\text{Mass}_{\text{t}} = 0.18$$

$$\therefore \ 180.0\ \text{kg} = 0.18 \ \text{t}$$
