Convert Rankine to Celsius
Unit definitions
Rankine
Rankine is a scale used in engineering systems in the United States. Temperature in $^{\circ}\text{R}$ is equal to $\text{K} \times \frac{9}{5}$.
Celsius
Celsius is defined by the temperatures at which water freezes ($0 \ \text{°C}$) and boils ($100 \ \text{°C}$) at standard atmospheric pressure. Temperature in Celsius is equal to $\text{K} - 273.15$.
How to convert Rankine to Celsius
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = \text{Temperature}_{\text{°R}} \cdot \frac{5}{9} - 273.15$$
Examples
Example 1
Convert $30.0\ \text{°R}$ to $\text{°C}$.
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = 30.0 \cdot \frac{5}{9} - 273.15$$
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = -256.483333$$
$$\therefore \ 30.0\ \text{°R} = -256.483333 \ \text{°C}$$
Example 2
Convert $85.0\ \text{°R}$ to $\text{°C}$.
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = 85.0 \cdot \frac{5}{9} - 273.15$$
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = -225.927778$$
$$\therefore \ 85.0\ \text{°R} = -225.927778 \ \text{°C}$$
Example 3
Convert $115.0\ \text{°R}$ to $\text{°C}$.
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = 115.0 \cdot \frac{5}{9} - 273.15$$
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = -209.261111$$
$$\therefore \ 115.0\ \text{°R} = -209.261111 \ \text{°C}$$
Example 4
Convert $150.0\ \text{°R}$ to $\text{°C}$.
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = 150.0 \cdot \frac{5}{9} - 273.15$$
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = -189.816667$$
$$\therefore \ 150.0\ \text{°R} = -189.816667 \ \text{°C}$$
Example 5
Convert $160.0\ \text{°R}$ to $\text{°C}$.
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = 160.0 \cdot \frac{5}{9} - 273.15$$
$$\text{Temperature}_{\text{°C}} = -184.261111$$
$$\therefore \ 160.0\ \text{°R} = -184.261111 \ \text{°C}$$
